Tracking Assets in Demanding Environments
Mining operations depend on accurate asset tracking, equipment compliance, and real-time visibility across large, often remote sites. Standard off-the-shelf solutions simply don't survive or scale to the demands of Australian mine sites.
Barcode QLD has been delivering purpose-built barcode and tracking systems for the mining industry since 2006 — hardware that survives the conditions, software that fits your workflow.

Mining-Grade Barcode Solutions
Built for the Mine Site
Compliance Ready
Audit-ready logs and tracking systems that satisfy regulatory requirements.
Real-Time Visibility
Live dashboards showing asset locations, equipment status, and production data.
Rugged Hardware
Scanners and labels built to survive the harshest Australian mine site conditions.
Site-Specific Solutions
Custom-built to your site's workflows — not generic off-the-shelf software.
Evolution Mining — Mt Carlton
A decade-long engagement building and evolving a purpose-built web application for one of Queensland's most remote gold and silver mining operations.
The Project
In 2014, Barcode QLD was engaged by Evolution Mining to build a tracking and logistics management system for their Mt Carlton operation — a gold, silver, and copper mine located south of Townsville in North Queensland.
What started as a logistics system to record the weights of 2-tonne ore concentrate bags being transported from the mine to the Townsville shipping port grew significantly over the following ten years. Multiple upgrades and additions expanded the platform into a comprehensive mine site management application — all within a single, centralised web application.
The system — known internally as Comtrack — became the operational backbone for concentrate tracking, transport logistics, supply chain management, metallurgist data collection, and yield reporting across the site's entire operational life.

How the System Grew Over a Decade
Concentrate Tracking System
Barcode tagging of Au and Ag concentrate bags at Mt Carlton. Unique barcode zip-tie tags, rugged PDA scanners, weight recording, and dispatch/receiving tracking through to Townsville container packing.
Supply Chain & Carrier Management
Expanded to a full supply chain portal connecting the mine, Townsville suppliers, and the Indigenous-owned transport company. Suppliers logged pickup requests; drivers scanned parcels at collection, depot, and delivery.
Haulage Optimisation
Added an intelligent bag-combination algorithm to maximise trailer payload. The system analysed available bags on site and presented 10 optimal load combinations to reduce waste and improve transport efficiency.
Metallurgist Data & Assay System
Extended to capture SGS metallurgist assay data (Au, Ag, Cu yields) at Estimate, Preliminary, and Final stages. Mineral concentration reports with filtering, status tracking, and full audit trails for every bag.
What the Platform Delivered
All capabilities housed in a single web application — accessible from anywhere, by anyone with the right access level.
Why a Single Web Application?
One Source of Truth
All data from bag production to export shipping lives in one place — no spreadsheets, no disconnected systems, no guesswork.
Evolves With the Operation
Over ten years, Comtrack was extended multiple times — each upgrade built on the existing data foundation without starting from scratch.
Compliance & Audit Ready
Complete traceability of every bag, every scan, every assay. Error correction is logged, not deleted — maintaining full data integrity.
Operational Reporting
Management can query any bag number, container, shipment, or PO and drill down to its full history — from bagging date to export vessel.
Transport Efficiency
The haulage optimisation algorithm maximised trailer payload, reducing the number of trips needed and cutting transport costs.
Simple for Field Crews
Operators on site needed minimal training — rugged PDA scanners and a clear step-by-step process kept errors low and data quality high.
